FRICTIONLESS.

NO CLUB AFFILIATION REQUIRED.

Your club is already a perfect fit for PCSL if it currently runs a successful USPSA, IDPA, 3-Gun, or similar match. See below for information on rules, divisions, and scoring.

Guidance on topics like stage design, best match directing practices, and sample stage videos will be coming soon. For now, the best way to get involved is to volunteer at your local club and learn from shooters who have a history of quality match directing and experience being range officers. Even if your club has not yet had a chance to try out a PCSL match, volunteering and getting involved in the match formats that they do already offer is the best way to advance practical shooting sports as a whole.

On club affiliation:

  • PCSL will never require clubs to affiliate in order to use the ruleset, format, targets, or divisions.

  • Later in 2024, PCSL will introduce an optional club affiliation program at a fair value that will allow clubs to participate in PCSL’s classification system for competitors - a feature which has been the number one requested item throughout 2023. See our road map for more details.

THE MOST FLEXIBLE OF ANY COMPETITIVE SHOOTING FORMAT.

As an open source ruleset, the PCSL rules can be taken, adapted, and modified to suit your club. There is no interaction required with PCSL in order to use or adapt the rules.

For example - maybe you want to run 2-Gun, but your club only allows pistol caliber. Simply define that a PCC must be run as your carbine, and the type of handgun you use will be what determines your division.

Does your club have additional safety restrictions? Make whatever changes needed to comply, and distribute an adjusted version of the ruleset to your club members.

Does your club have a large number of 1911 enthusiasts? Simply define your own division for 1911s and add it to a modified version of the PCSL rules to distribute to your club members.

When making these adjustments, we ask that you clearly specify that the new rules document is an adjusted version of the official PCSL Ruleset. For example - “[CLUB/MATCH NAME] PCSL Rules & Divisions”. Or “PCSL Rules modified for [CLUB/MATCH NAME]”. As we begin offering club affiliation and different levels of matches later this year, rules clarity will start to become extremely important.

The links below will always be to the most current iteration of the official PCSL Rules and Divisions. You may also find our official rules on the PCSL Linktree. PCSL Rules found elsewhere may not be official!

A dedicated ruleset for PCSL Rifle only matches will be included in the next rulebook book update in Q1 2024, although they can currently be run easily by using the carbine portions of the 2-Gun Divisions. 3-Gun Rules and Divisions will be reviewed later this year, and our intention is to add modified as well as review how practical division works in a 3-gun format.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM PCSL GOING FORWARD:

Until now, we’ve been primarily focused on fine tuning the details of the game.

As we move into 2024, PCSL will see a heavy shift from focusing on the details of the game to focusing on cultivating a strong community. This means the introduction of official club affiliations and competitor memberships. Additionally, we want to support clubs that are running their own PCSL events, and gather as much constructive input as we can to understand the needs of clubs - using that input to improve and polish the rulebook and introduce other useful features to the league.

What PCSL offers today is a practical competition shooting format brought into the modern era. We’ve managed to not only expand the accessibility of competing in shooting sports, but also drastically increased the skill ceiling of our format at the highest level.

  • By introducing simple divisions focused on real-world modern equipment, and an easy to understand common sense rulebook, PCSL makes it extremely easy to jump in and start competing for shooters from all different backgrounds.

  • By introducing a re-imagined target that demands a higher accuracy standard than other shooting sport alternatives, and by retaining the perfect balance of points-per-second (or “hit factor”) scoring, PCSL pushes the skill ceiling of competition even higher, making space for new legends to make names for themselves and push the boundaries of what we believe to be possible on a course of fire.

PCSL MAJOR EVENT SCHEDULE

In 2024, PCSL only has plans so far to run our flagship major event, the 2024 PCSL 2-Gun National Championship.

However, other PCSL major events are starting to pop up all around the country run by clubs who are enjoying the format we offer, but are not yet affiliated with the PCSL organization.

If you’re looking to compete regularly or just get into the format, PCSL local matches are becoming more and more commonplace.

In order to find these, you will need to visit PractiScore and search for “PCSL” under the “Matches” tab. Make sure you have a PractiScore account, as this is the only way that you will be able to sign up for the majority of PCSL matches.
